Discover the exotic beauty of Dragon's Blood resin, sourced from approximately 20 different tree species worldwide. These trees can be found in Asia and South America, but the original Dragon's Blood resin, traded for centuries along the 'Incense Route,' hails from the Dracaena cinnabari tree on the captivating island of Socotra. This historic resin has earned the moniker 'Medieval' Dragon's Blood due to its mention in ancient Greek and Medieval texts, formularies, and Pharmacopoeias.
The Dragon's Blood resins have unique compositions, each with its own character. Dracaena Cinnabari resin from Socotra has been cherished as a pigment, dye, and a durable lacquer, often used to impart a deep red finish to violins.
Today, Socotra Dragon's Blood is popularly used to create long-lasting, blood-red ink and as a potent incense for various rituals and ceremonies.
The fresh resin of D. Cinnabari initially lacks a scent, but when placed on hot coals as incense, it fills the room with its deep, rich, and sensuous aroma. Its notes resemble dark amber with a warm, nutty undertone, both calming and invigorating. It evokes the essence of Red Sea breezes and fragrant summer nights, and only a small amount is needed to transform your space.
This is the highest grade of Socotra Dragon's Blood, composed of individual tears that form when the tree is wounded. Harvesting this resin is unique compared to Frankincense trees; small, shallow gouges through the bark of D. Cinnabari yield resin, resulting in the relatively small size and shape of these individual resin tears.
Listing is for 0.5 ounces of Premium Dracaena Cinnabari resin.
Dragon’s Blood is traditionally burned to help remove negative energy from the home.
In Hoodoo & Voodoo traditions could be mixed with Red Brick Powder to seal door and prevent negative energy from entering.
In Gypsy Traditions, it is also used to seal doorways in powder form after a cleansing.
Sold as a religious curio. We make no guarantees of results.
