Meet Madame Lily

Long before Touch of Magick opened its doors, Madame Lily stood at mine. As a boy, I’d open my eyes in the morning and find a woman standing in my bedroom doorway. Seeing her there frightened me. In time, I understood her as an ancestral spirit who had been watching over me.

Years went by. I’d almost forgotten those mornings when customers began telling me they’d seen a woman around the shop. Listening to them, I recognized the lady from my doorway.

I came to know Lily as a French occultist, a Spiritist, and a gifted medium of the late 1800s and early 1900s. She loved divinatory systems. The Tarot de Marseille was one of her favorites. She also practiced scrying with a crystal ball and automatic writing, sitting with pen and paper to receive impressions.

What delights her now is seeing someone discover a capacity of their own. If you sat beside her with a spread between you, I think she’d let you speak first. Perhaps it’s the little dog at the Fool’s heels that catches your eye. She’d want to hear what you noticed, in your own words. There’s room at her table for beginners.

When her work was done, Lily enjoyed a good cup of tea and a cigarette.

She does love company

The doll in the pink dress represents Lily. Some people come to Touch of Magick just to sit beside her. We’ve had one visitor leave and the next arrive that very same day, each having made the trip especially for her. That’s how I know she’s still making friends.

Visitors tell us about little impressions they receive in her company. Others know her as the lady who reminds them to lower their voices when someone is having a reading. I still feel her watching over the shop the way she once watched over me.

If you visit, go ahead and say bonjour. If you’re just beginning to trust your intuition, you can tell her about the tiniest impression, even one you haven’t quite found words for. She loves the attention, and I’d love to hear what brought you to her corner.
